Enhanced Vulnerability Capacity Assessment (eVCA)
The eVCA is a participatory community risk assessment process that empowers communities to understand the hazards and vulnerabilities they face, identify where risks come from, and decide on practical actions to reduce those risks and build resilience. It strengthens local decision-making and inclusivity by bringing together people, resources, and multi-stakeholder perspectives to plan and act on priority risks.

In Person Training
Antigua & Barbuda | April 17 - 20, 2026
About this Training
The Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (eVCA) training targets Red Cross and Red Crescent National Society staff and volunteers, building their capacity to conduct participatory community risk assessments. The training equips participants with the skills to facilitate eVCA processes with communities, including identifying and analysing hazards and underlying risk drivers, assessing vulnerability and exposure, mapping existing coping capacities, and supporting communities to define practical, locally led actions to strengthen resilience, improve early warning and early action, and reduce disaster risks.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this training you will be able to:
-
Explain the purpose and principles of the eVCA approach.
-
Describe the reasons for conducting an eVCA
-
Outline the enhanced features of eVCA compared with traditional VCA
-
Support communities to identify and analyse hazards, vulnerabilities, exposure, and capacities through participatory assessment methods
-
Facilitate participatory processes through eVCA steps
-
Demonstrate how eVCA contributes to community resilience

Learning Reflection Quiz
This quiz is designed to help participants reinforce and reflect on their understanding of key concepts from the online training, and to prepare them for deeper, hands-on learning during the in-person session.
Required Online Courses
Before attending the eVCA Training you must complete the below online courses and submit your certificates via email to kearell.neils@ifrc.org. If you have already completed these courses there is no need to redo them, simply email your certificates.
